Also part of The Latvian National Museum of Art, the Arsenāls is situated in a customs warehouse built at the beginning of the 19th century in the late Russian Classicist style. It houses a collection of artworks from the mid-20th century to the present which are not on permanent display. Instead, the space is included in topic-based exhibitions such as "Soviet Mythology. Socialist Realism." in 2008. The Arsenāls also functions as an exhibition hall for external institutions and initiatives. Examples are the exhibition Waves, organized by New Media Culture Centre RIXC in 2006, or the exhibitions of contemporary Russian and contemporary Lithuanian art in 2008 and 2009. EI, 2009
