One finds this large private gallery entitled Vartai (est. 1991) housed in the 19th century building in the very centre of Vilnius. A gallery which is known for promoting the so-called superstars of Vilnius commercial art scene, Vartai has recently started to collaborate with various international artists and institutions to launch a diverse series of projects. Reflecting on the recent creative trends within the contemporary art world, Vartai collaborates with both established and emerging artists from Lithuania and abroad.

Furthermore, it has started initiating more and more ambitious projects (i.e., the installation by Žilvinas Kempinas for the 53rd Venice Biennale), even if it is sometimes criticised for not having a clear vision. VK, 2009
